Poloniex Urges Customers to Change Passwords after Data Leak

The US-based digital asset exchange Poloniex has urged its customers to reset their passwords after some email addresses and passwords were leaked on social media.

The exchange said Thursday that it is not responsible for the leaked account information.

Passwords are not stored in any recoverable form, Poloniex said, adding that data are stored as salted bcrypt hashes.

Moreover, the exchange said that less than 5% of the email addresses on the leaked list are related to Poloniex accounts.

Some users doubted the authenticity of the email, but Poloniex reassured them and urged harmed users to change their passwords.
