The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) announced, on 27 August, that it will host virtually the Second Workshop on Energy and Information Technology on 21 September.
This year’s event will discuss and exchange information on several key topics relevant to energy technology and innovation. Among the main workshop topics are the future of blue hydrogen, cyber security, and blockchain technology.
Besides OPEC member countries, international organisations and leading global corporations will be invited to participate in the workshop.
The event is part of OPEC’s ongoing research programme. It holds workshops and technical meetings that act as a forum for information exchange on energy’s most pressing issues.
Black Gold and Blockchain
OPEC is more interested in streamlining aspects such as the supply chain.
The energy industry, particularly the oil sector, has always been eager to utilise and develop the latest cutting-edge technologies to improve efficiency of its operations, along with its environmental credentials.”Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, OPEC Secretary General
We, at OPEC, constantly review and analyse the latest technologies emerging in our industry and their impacts on the various sectors, including the supply chain. These technologies have changed us a lot, and we expect them to continue doing so in the future.”
In conclusion, the oil sector may be the next in line to have its supply chain logistics reshaped by blockchain.
