Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and SpaceX, posted a tweet which allegedly led the electric car manufacturer’s shares to lose billions of dollars. Musk, known for his provocative comments, said he thought Tesla’s stock had been overvalued. Accordingly, the stock sustained losses of approx. $10 billion within hours.
Musk responds to Bitcoin’s performance
Consequently, Tesla investors who sustained losses commented negatively on Musk’s tweet. Although some users suggested that the market had already experienced losses before the post, another user replied to Musk:
“Dude…I just lost $10k because of this tweet. Wtf is wrong with u.”
Musk’s post also sparked a flood of tweets and related memes within the crypto-community. Although TRON’s CEO, Justin Sun, clearly tweeted “buy Bitcoin”, some, including Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, hoped that Musk might do the opposite with Bitcoin:
“1 tweet and 10 Billion Dollars gone. Let’s try the reverse. I hope he tweets BTC, is too low.”
Musk also got a reply from a verified Twitter account. The account manager tweeted by emulating Tesla’s CEO, but with Bitcoin.
“Bitcoin price is too low imo (in my opinion).”
The @Bitcoin account has been criticized harshly in the past. Several members in the community said the account managers do not comply with the fundamental concepts of Bitcoin decentralization. Moreover, they accused the account managers of promoting scams. However, Musk replied by asking them about the price of a “Bitcoin anime”.
Love relationship with Bitcoin?
Cryptolydian earlier reported Musk as pursuing his habit of teasing the Internet with his cheeky tweets.
Musk had jokingly made a suggestive tweet about Bitcoin that has set Twitter heads over heels. The innuendo-filled tweet gained thousands of likes and is still getting more by the minute.
Musk often uses his Twitter to post both teasers and serious news about his projects or views. Perhaps this is why this tweet stirred his followers, but there is good reason to believe the tech-celebrity actually expresses admiration for the coin.
Musk has previously praised bitcoin’s rival Dogecoin and made a reference to the second most valuable cryptocurrency: Ethereum. However, this bitcoin “joke” comes at a time when the crypto community is eying the coin closely after its recent surge. Crypto fans are also hoping that Musk and other Silicon Valley entrepreneurs join the next wave of cryptocurrency adoption.
